One of
the dying breed of traditional Scottish pubs, and we believe the best.
Situated on St. Stephen Street in the basement, the Bailie Bar is one
of the best known pubs in Edinburgh.
The island bar lends itself perfectly to the banter and conversation
of both customers and staff with no music to interrupt the constant
flow of chat. Arguably the greatest asset of the Bailie Bar is its volume
of regular customers who manage to create an intelligent, funny and
often addictive atmosphere.
As the capital guide states:
"Stockbridge's finest. A busy basement bar with more eclectic
character than you can shake a stick at."
The Bailie comes into its own during the winter with the low dark ceilings
and real fire lending itself to an extremely cosy place to sit, read
(every newspaper, every day), watch sport or just immerse yourself in
the constant banter of the bar. The pub is busy every night and particularly
comes to life on Friday and Saturday nights and when any major sporting
event is on. Food is served every
day until 9pm, 5pm on Fridays and there is a wide range of drinks
available. Quiz nights are held on Tuesdays at 8.30 pm and are particularly
busy and various sporting events are shown on the 3 screens available.
Many
other events such as the World
Famous Stockbridge Duck Race are also organised.
